Ted Laird & Family Hampshires
Our aim is to keep Jesus Christ as the head of our home.  We strive, but know we sometimes fail, to  bring a Christ-like attitude to everything we do.  Below are some of the scriptures that are foundational to our faith.

John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

Joshua 24:15
…....…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Mark 12:29-31
..........  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. “There is no commandment greater than these."

Jeremiah 29:11-13
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Malachi 3:10
"Let your tenths come into the store-house so that there may be food in my house, and put me to the test by doing so, says the Lord of armies, and see if I do not make the windows of heaven open and send down such a blessing on you that there is no room for it.

Welcome to Laird Hampshires.  We appreciate your visit to our site.

Our family began raising purebred showpigs in 1916 when my Grandfather Chester Meal purchased his first purebred Poland Chinas under the Home Place Farm banner.  Home Place Farm was extremely succesful in the 1930s thru the 1950s including showing FIVE purebred Poland Barrows to Grand Champion 4-H honors @ the Indiana State Fair in '33, '40, '47, '48 & '49.   Chester judged most every major show of the day and worked as a fieldman for the Poland Association for a few years.

The baton was passed on to my father Bill Laird, who purchased his first Polands from Chester Meal in 1951 - a boar named Kinsman and a gilt named Faith B.  He liked the pigs so much he decided to marry Chester & Faye Meal's youngest daughter - Faith.   Bill Laird & Family exhibited several champion Poland gilts & boars at the Indiana State Fair and National Shows and placed three Poland barrows in the 4-H Spotlight sale @ the Indiana State Fair.

Ted Laird Hampshires began in 1981 with the purchase of the Reserve Champion Hampshire gilt from Larry & Joe Rule @ the Indiana State Sale.  Long-time family friend John L. Fox offered to breed this gilt to the Indiana State Fair Champion Boar from Ken Dorrel and we showed gilts out of this sow to 1st, 3rd & 4th in her first litter @ the 1982 Indiana State Fair Open Show.  That kind of got us hooked on Hampshire females and breeding better Hampshire females remains our primary passion.

We strive to continue the tradition of  breeding winning showpigs and doing so with integrity.

Nibbs x Fast Forward January 4th Litter
It has been a great end to our summer show season @ the Indiana State Fair.

Highlights include:

- Grand & top selling Berk gilt - it took $3500 to bring her back home.   We are honored that Todd Harvey was contending on this great gilt despite already owning her $3600 full-sister purchased in 2009 and her $1550 littemate that he bought this Spring.  Repeat customers are the ulitimate compliment in the hog business.

- Grand & top selling Berk boar selling to the Huff family for $1300.

- Pair of 7-litter Stimulus boars placed 3rd & 4th and sold for $2000 & $1900 respectively.  The $2000 boar sold to Brian Hines and Ron Iverson.  He is named White Collar and semen is available by calling Ron.

- Package Hampshire gilt won her class at the 4H & open show and sold to Delbert Peters for $1900

- 7-Litter Stimulus Hampshire gilt won her class at the 4H Show and 3rd in the open show selling to the Wehmeir family for $2000.

- Package Hampshire barrow placed 2nd in 4H show.

Our customers had great success as well:

-Champion Hamp and 4th overall 4H barrow was a grandson of a gilt sold to the Smoot family. a few years ago.

- Champion Berk and 6th overall 4H barrow being a son of the $3600 full-sib gilt to this years Berk litter.  This litter also contained Acton's 5th overall barrow @ Montgomery Co and Hendrickson's 2nd place gilt @ InSF 4H show.

-The 1st place class 8 Hamp barrow was out of the gilt we sold to the Smoot family last year.

Finally, we were thrilled to have our Fast Forward x Nibbs daughter selected as the Hog College representative for the Poland China breed.
