OUR FOUNDATION
Hampshires, Polands, Berkshires, & Crossbreds
Our aim is to keep Jesus Christ as the head of our home.  We strive, but know we sometimes fail, to bring a Christ-like attitude to everything we do.  Below are some of the scriptures that are foundational to our faith.

John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

Joshua 24:15
…....…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Mark 12:29-31
..........  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. “There is no commandment greater than these."

Jeremiah 29:11-13
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Malachi 3:10
"Let your tenths come into the store-house so that there may be food in my house, and put me to the test by doing so, says the Lord of armies, and see if I do not make the windows of heaven open and send down such a blessing on you that there is no room for it.

Welcome to Laird Hampshires.  We appreciate your visit to our site.

Our family began raising purebred showpigs in 1916 when my Grandfather Chester Meal purchased his first purebred Poland Chinas under the Home Place Farm banner.  Home Place Farm was extremely successful in the 1930s thru the 1950s including showing FIVE purebred Poland Barrows to Grand Champion 4-H honors @ the Indiana State Fair in '33, '40, '47, '48 & '49.   Chester judged most every major show of the day and worked as a fieldman for the Poland Association for a few years.

The baton was passed on to my father Bill Laird, who purchased his first Polands from Chester Meal in 1951 - a boar named Kinsman and a gilt named Faith B.  He liked the pigs so much he decided to marry Chester & Faye Meal's youngest daughter - Faith.   Bill Laird & Family exhibited several champion Poland gilts & boars at the Indiana State Fair and National Shows and placed three Poland barrows in the 4-H Spotlight sale @ the Indiana State Fair.

Ted Laird Hampshires began in 1982 with the purchase of the Reserve Champion Hampshire gilt from Larry & Joe Rule @ the Indiana State Sale.  Long-time family friend John L. Fox offered to breed this gilt to the Indiana State Fair Champion Boar from Ken Dorrel and we showed gilts out of this sow to 1st, 3rd & 4th in her first litter @ the 1983 Indiana State Fair Open Show.  That kind of got us hooked on Hampshire females and breeding better Hampshire females remains our primary passion.

We strive to continue the tradition of  breeding winning showpigs and doing so with integrity.

"Superman" has landed at Premium Blend Sires. He has to be from a different planet and we are anticipating the competition will need some Kryptonite to stop his offspring.  A carrier son of Bar None x (Walk The Dog x Sugar Daddy) His dam was the 2011 Houston Champion Berk gilt from Brattains that Sarah Jones exhibited.

Superman created quite a buzz on the Texas circuit as he just wrapped up his show season winning Grand Overall Dark OPB  honors for the 5th time in 6 shows with his win at the TJLA Fall Classic.  Bred by Brian Bennett (Dublin TX) and Sarah Jones (Conroe TX).  We are very grateful to the Jones family for staying committed to sending this guy north to fill out what we think will be one of the premier line-ups of Berkshire sires in the country.  They had LOTS of options ($$$$$$)  with this guy and we are THRILLED to have him here.  You have to see him to believe him.  Owned in partnership with Chris Jones and Family.
Introducing Willis and Arnold.  We think they are two pieces that can help move the Berkshire breed to the penthouse.  August 17 Gary Coleman x Miss Hathaway sons.  We plan to use them hard on Miss H Daughters and Granddaughters.

Their littermate sister just picked up her 1st Dark OPB Championship @ the Houston TJLA show her 1st and only time out so far.
We are thrilled to announce the formation of Premium Blend SIres.  We think is the final piece to the puzzle to allow us to be your complete source for Premium showpig genetics.  We will be concentrating primarily on accumulating the absolute best Berkshire, Hampshire, Poland China, and Crossbred sires.  We feel we have a tremendous start with the 3 Berkshire boars shown below.  We believe they represent one of the most elite sets of Berkshire boars you will be able to find anywhere.

We hope to be collecting towards the end of January 2012 and will post when we have established pricing and are booking orders.

Feel free to call anytime to schedule a visit to see the young guns.
Arnold - The beast.  Massive everywhere and bone to burn.  We think he has a shot to be a legend for making Berkshire breeding stock for generations to come.
Willis - Great one that we knew had to be a boar the minute he was born.  Freak chisel front,  a chest floor that makes your jaw hit the ground, muscled like a Hamp and a tail set that Yorkshires would envy.  If you are serious about making Berkshire barrows, we have never seen one we like better to get that done.  You know you have something special when the Southwest guys are calling to ask you NOT to cut him because they want to show his babies!!!!!!!!  One visitor's comment - "Now that is a Stud"  best sums up our thoughts.
