Sale Plans
Pricing - We know you have many options and that it can be time-consuming to find the right project. Therefore, we would like to be as up front on our pricing as possible. We work very hard to find a way to make sure that your interest in our breeding program results in you leaving our farm with a project that meets your goals at a price that we both agree is reasonable.
General guidelines for our off-the-farm pricing are:
All Barrows & Crossbred Gilts: $250 - $1000
Purebred Gilts: $500 - $2000
Miss Hathaway Berkshire Barrows $500 - $2000
Miss Hathaway Berkshire Gilts - $1000 - $3000
Volume discounts are given and repeat customers are also rewarded for their loyalty.
Starting prices for the on-line auctions will typically match the bottom end of the price ranges listed above. Once a pig has been posted on the on-line sale it will not be available for sale off-the farm. The on-line sale line-ups are typically posted 1 week prior to the sale date.
Our policy on viewing of pigs on the farm is that we show those pigs that are healthy and have fully recovered from weaning and are ready for purchase. Different pigs come thru weaning and hit their prime at different stages and we have found no advantage to having them on display at less than 100%.
Guarantees
We guarantee our purebreds to be born the date printed on the pedigree and out of the parents listed on the pedigree.
We guarantee we will give an honest appraisal of the pluses and minuses of each pig.
We guarantee we only offer for sale those pigs we would be proud to have our own children walk behind. However, even the best pig out of the most proven bloodlines can turn out differently at 280 lbs than they look at 35 – 50 pounds. Therefore we cannot guarantee show-ring success. We think that is a GREAT advantage the show pig industry has over other livestock species in that it greatly levels the playing field and has prevented it from becoming a matter of the biggest wallet winning. Certainly having resources plays a major role, but a good eye, and a willingness to work very hard can go a long way towards major success.
Refunds.
We promise to treat you as we expect to be treated when we purchase a show prospect or breeding stock. In general, our policy is that if a pig left our farm with a defect or illness that it does not or cannot recover from then we will refund your purchase price minus any residual market value of the pig. Please notify us within 1 week of purchase if you are concerned.
Underlines on gilts and pigs sold as boars. If found to have less than 6 functional teats on either side and this was not disclosed prior to purchase then we will refund your money minus any residual market value of the pig.
Unless specifically stated, we do not refund for a gilt or boar being a non-breeder at breeding age if purchased less than 4 months old. While we work very hard to supply dependable genetics, there are significant factors beyond our control – primarily exposure to illness and injuries, that can make this unpredictable.
Bred Gilts – We guarantee the gilt/sow to be bred when she leaves our farm. We do not have a live-pig guarantee as there are significant factors beyond our control – again - primarily exposure to illness and injuries, that can make this unpredictable.
We do not refund on breed-classifying issues. Our perception is that these rules vary widely and are not predictable. If purchased on-line, we will show views of all sides and give as honest appraisal as possible.
